9:30am | Local artists and musicians headline a day of fun and informative family events at the second annual Green Long Beach festival, held Saturday from 10:00am-10:00pm in the East Village.  The festival’s theme is “Change the Tide” and seeks to educate and promote healthy and environmentally friendly living.

The event is free and located at 3rd Street and Long Beach Boulevard.

Three stages will provide live entertainment as festival-goers can listen to the sounds of the Sun Ray Gravitones, The Vespertines and the Long Beach Liberators will perusing art exhibits and an organic farmers’ market.

There will be plenty of delicious, healthy food along with fun workshops for kids and innovative expos to discuss the latest trends in green technology. There is even a bicycle valet for the pedal-pushers. Students from the Colegio New City School will present their project to create a life-sized dolphin out of 23,000 water bottles to represent the number of dolphins slaughtered in Japan every year.

“We hope this festival will send a message to the community that a sustainable lifestyle is not only possible but practical,” said a statement from Jarrod Osborne, General Manager of festival sponsor Solar Source, Inc.  “We anticipate that the innovations here will inspire more and more use of pollution-free energy, renewable technologies, and promote eco-conscious and sustainable lifestyles in our community”.

After the success of last year’s event, Saturday is sure to bring a large crowd so get there early and enjoy all that the Green Long Beach Festival has to offer.
