Gustavo Arellano, author, editor, and syndicated columnist, will address an audience on May 23 at 6:00pm at Veterans Stadium — specifically, he’ll address the more than 1,500 students that will receive AA/AS degrees or certificates this year at LBCC. The College expects thousands of guests, students and alumni to celebrate in the graduation ceremony.

Gustavo Arellano, who is well known for his “Ask a Mexican” syndicated column and books, is a product of the community college system. “I’m honored to give the commencement speech at LBCC, particularly because I’m a proud product of the California community college system. Though times are tough [students need to be encouraged] as they continue toward greatness,” said Arellano.

After commencement, there will be a graduate reception located on the north field, where the graduates can meet with their families and take pictures with faculty members while enjoying refreshments and music. Seating for commencement is free and on a first come, first serve basis.

All community members are invited to attend the ceremony. Parking will be free in Veteran’s Stadium, located at 4901 E. Carson, Long Beach
