Noise is to be expected in the skies above Long Beach today through the weekend.

City officials warned that six U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18 aircraft will be based out of the Long Beach Airport for training operations and depart Sunday afternoon.

“They are significantly louder than aircraft that typically operate at the airport,” city officials tweeted. “Due to the unique nature of the mission, military aircraft are exempt from noise regulations, but they will be using noise-abatement procedures in the Long Beach area.”

Officials explained that the procedure entails “modified arrival and departure flight profiles and minimum use of afterburners.”
