A 77-year-old retired volunteer and her friends will be honored for their work in feeding the homeless this Wednesday during the 12th anniversary of the Feeding in the Park.

Long Beach Councilman Dee Andrews will honor Alice Robinson at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 1950 Lemon Avenue, at noon.

Robinson—originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama—has lived in the Sixth District of Long Beach since 1957. She began volunteering in her community since her retirement in 1998 from Mary Kay Contributions according to a press release.

Her two daughters, Rosie Cade and Vanessa Conner, also help their mother feed the hungry as well.

She has prepared and served over 11,000 hot home-cooked full course meals to homeless at the park over the past 12 years.

Through the help of donors and out of her own senior income, Robinson and her friends have prepared meals every first Wednesday of the month at MLK Park.

The most popular meal includes spaghetti. Other items include meatloaf beef stew and corn.

Wednesday’s event will celebrate the anniversary of the Feeding in the Park program.
