Eight residents and three pets were displaced this afternoon by a fire that damaged two apartment units near Downtown Long Beach, authorities said.
The fire was reported shortly before 1:20 p.m. at a two-story apartment complex on Linden Avenue near East Seventh Street, said Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Jack Crabtree.
Crews arrived within five minutes and found heavy smoke and flames at a unit on the first floor, Crabtree said.
Firefighters knocked down the flames within 10 minutes, but a unit on the second floor sustained “significant damage” as well, he said.

One person was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Crabtree said. The American Red Cross was called in to provide resources for the affected residents.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
