A man who was pulled over in Long Beach early last week and was disvocered to have a fake pipe bomb inside his car was charged with multiple counts yesterday including possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of ammunition and firearms.
Braford Pinkham, 48, of Phelan, California was arrested on the morning of Monday, February 11 after being pulled over for reckless driving in the area of Anaheim Street and Daisy Avenue. Pinkham was found to be a felon in possession of a handgun and a search of his vehicle found a suspicious device resembling a pipe bomb that required the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Disposal Unit to respond.
The device was determined to be a hoax bomb and Long Beach Police Department detectives continued their investigation, eventually executing a search warrant of Pinkham’s house in Phelan, a city in San Bernardino County.
“With the assistance of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, detectives located narcotics, narcotic paraphernalia, and other evidence related to the investigation,” said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.
The following charges were filed with the L.A. County District Attorney’s office:
- Sale/Offer to Sell/Transportation of a Controlled Substance
- Possession For Sale of a Controlled Substance
- Ex-Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
