A firefighter was injured while battling a blaze that erupted in the attic of a Lakewood Village home on Tuesday night, officials said. The fire also left six people and two dogs without a home.

Firefighters got to the scene near Greenbrier Road and Harvey Way just before 7:30 p.m. and reported heavy fire coming from the attic. They called a second alarm for reinforcement to the home, fire department spokesman Matt Dobberpuhl said.

Two residents were home at the time and escaped without injury, he said. However one firefighter was injured and taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze by 8 p.m. and crews are working to overhaul the home and mitigate the damage, Dobberpuhl said. An investigator is at the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
