The Long Beach Fire Department extinguished a sizable brush fire near the 710 Freeway at Pacific Coast Highway Sunday night, according to LBFD spokesperson Jake Heflin.

Firefighters responded to the fire around 6:30 p.m. Sunday and found a debris pile ablaze between the 710 Freeway and the Los Angeles River, and PCH and Anaheim Street, Heflin said.

Three engines, two fire investigators and one battalion chief handled the blaze. Long Beach Public Works provided a skip loader to move the debris around, Heflin said, allowing firefighters to fully extinguish the blaze down to its base.

Heflin said It took firefighters over two hours to extinguish the blaze that burned an area of about 3,750-square feet.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, LBFD spokesman Brian Fisk said.
