6:00am | The Long Beach Fire Department has contacted multiple media outlets asking them to inform the public that there are people posing as official Long Beach Fire or City personnel in order to “inspect fire extinguishers and bring them up to date for $100.00.”

The scam has mainly been happening in Belmont Shore, particularly to women-owned businesses, but has also spread to other neighboring areas. The LBFD wants to remind residents that no such services exist with city employees.

If you are approached, ask for I.D., inform them you are not interested, and contact the Long Beach Police Department.

CORRECTION: Extinguishers was originally spelled “exstinguishers.”
