Former NFL linebacker Willie McGinest, previously charged with two felony counts stemming from a confrontation at a West Hollywood nightclub in 2022, has now been sued by the alleged victim of his attack.

Blake Adams’ Santa Monica Superior Court lawsuit also names the Santa Monica Boulevard eatery, Delilah, as a defendant and alleges assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and premises liability. Adams seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

McGinest played in the National Football League for 15 years, most of them with the New England Patriots, where he was a three-time Super Bowl champion. He attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School and played at USC.

Since retiring in 2008, he has served as an analyst for NFL Network,Fox Sports and ESPN.

A representative for McGinest could not be immediately reached for comment on the suit brought Wednesday. However, McGinest previously released a statement regarding the altercation.

“First and foremost, I want to offer my deepest apology for my lapse in judgment and behavior,” McGinest said. “To my family, community, friends and youth I mentor, please know I feel horrible for my actions and take full responsibility.”

Adams is an actor and entrepreneur and met with friends at Delilah the night of Dec. 9, the suit states. When McGinest, who also was present, walked past the plaintiff’s table, Adams tried to talk to McGinest about the most recent USC football game, the suit states.

McGinest reacted by using an epithet to ask why the plaintiff was asking him a question, then walked away, the suit states. However, McGinest returned and he again used foul language to ask what the plaintiff had said, according to the suit.

Adams “was startled, afraid and unaware of what was about to occur,” the suit states.

When Adams tried to stand and tell McGinest he was a fan trying to say hello, McGinest “suddenly, unprovoked and without reason punched plaintiff in the face,” according to the suit.

At least two other men joined the fray and they all began punching Adams in the face and body, the suit states. McGinest also used a bottle from a nearby table to strike Adams multiple times in the head and face, the suit alleges.

Adams continues to suffer emotional distress, pain and suffering, embarrassment and humiliation since the alleged attack, the suit states.

Other previous confrontations at Delilah’s have involved the entourages of singer Drake and MMA fighter Conor McGregor, as well former NFL player Jordan Payton, the suit states.
