Mayor Bob Foster is personally thanking Long Beach Firefighters who have been dispatched to fight the wildfires that have engulfed much of Southern California.  The Mayor is currently at Irvine Regional Park, where two engine companies are assisting other companies from the region in protecting local structures.

I spoke to the Mayor by phone, and he had some words of encouragement for the Firefighters and the Long Beach families that are being affected by the tragedy.

“Our Firefighters are doing a wonderful job and are a true testament to teamwork.  They are organized, their spirits are high and are great group of people.  We all need to support our public safety personnel.”

Foster also had a message to Long Beach residents –

“We need to reach out and try to help our friends and family that are being displaced.  If you know a family that needs shelter, please take them in.  There are no more available hotel rooms for these families.  Also, if possible, please make a donation to the Red Cross.”

The Mayor has also offered friends of his that have been displaced to stay at his personal residence in Long Beach.

Support isn’t the only thing the Mayor is offering today, he is also passing out fresh pairs of socks to the Firefighters who have not been able to change in days.

There are over 70 LBFD personnel scattered across the region assisting with fire operations.  Let’s wish our men and women of the LB Fire Department the best….
