Residents living near the Long Beach Airport (LGB) can expect to hear more noise than usual as four F/A-18 aircraft will be arriving at LGB today between noon and 7:00PM.
The U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) aircraft will depart around 1:00PM on Sunday, May 15, according to the announcement.
In an effort to reduce noise pollution, the USMC has restricted their operations to daytime hours in an effort to be considerate of the nearby residential areas. F/A-18 aircraft are louder and much more easily heard, however the USMC will also be modifying arrival and departure flight profiles and minimizing the use of afterburners.
The F/A-18 Hornet is a two-engine, all-weather day or night jet that can be used for fighter or attack missions or both, according to the USMC’s website.
