3:40pm Reporting by Sander Roscoe Wolff | On Sunday, September 11th, the nation will remember the tragic attacks on New York, the Pentagon, and Washington, D.C., and the lives lost by those in the air, and on the ground. Since the events that unfolded 10 years ago, many have found personal ways to memorialize those that died. Long Beach fireman Gary Biggerstaff created 343 white crosses, each with the name of a fire fighter that died while responding to the World Trade Center. His memorial attracted thousands.
In 2004 an impromptu group of firemen, gathering for lunch at Cook’s Corner in Trabuco Canyon, rode their motorcycles together to see Biggerstaff’s memorial. This has become an annual tradition. The ride, which began with about 50 riders, has since grown to over 1500 riders in 2010. This year, the ride will culminate at Alamitos Bay Landing where, at 5:30, live music will commence with a performance by The Wilsons, followed by the U2 tribute band, L.A.vation. At 8 PM, there will be a patriotic memorial fireworks display.
The concert and fireworks are free. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Guests may not bring food or beverages, but both will be available from nearby restaurants.
