2:00pm | In the mood for some eggs on a lovely Spring morning? How about some pancakes? Lucky for you, I know just the place.
Local non-profit organization We Love Long Beach will hold another of their free community breakfasts from 9:00-11:00am on Saturday morning, at 5490 E. Hill Street next to the playground at Los Altos Park.
The group plans to continue to hold breakfasts and barbeques in each neighborhood throughout the city, already counting recent events in Wrigley, Belmont Shore, Bixby Knolls and more.
“The desire is to have a breakfast for every neighborhood, so wherever you are you can ride your bike and get breakfast that’s put on by your neighbors,” Scott Jones told the lbpost.com last May. Jones co-founded We Love Long Beach with his sister, Robyn, and friend Adam Ferry.
“You can get to know them, serve alongside them. You can also talk about issues in your neighborhood, things that need to be changed. So that’d be the goal: to create these environments where you’re running into the same people and join forces for the common good of the city. That might look like a book club, that might look like a barbeque or a beach clean-up with Justin Rudd. My thing is, as long as people are getting together, that’s the key.”
We Love Long Beach began the tradition of holding free community breakfasts and/or barbeques more than a year ago, and the events have continue to attract larger crowds as the group gains more of a following. In the past, firefighters have assisted the group with barbeques and We Love Long Beach has become involved with Food Finders, the Arts Council, the Long Beach Unified School District and more.
So grab the kids and the neighbors and join in on the fun tomorrow!
