1:45pm | Residents of Long Beach are invited to take advantage of a free electronics recycling and document shredding event being offered this Saturday in Naples.

The Naples Island Business Association and the Naples Improvement Association, along with Third District Councilman Gary DeLong, are hosting the event this Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at 5907 Syracuse Walk.

The event will be set-up in a drive-thru style arrangement, where residents can simply drive up and drop off file boxes of documents to be shredded or old electronics that state law precludes from being disposed of in the garbage, according to information provided by one of DeLong’s staffers.

While the first five regular-sized file boxes of paper to be shredded is free of charge, each additional box will cost $5, according to DeLong’s office.

As far as electronics and e-waste is concerned, accepted will be old televisions, computer monitors, computers, laptops, keyboards, printers, mice, hard drives, fax machines, microwave ovens, DVD players, VCRs, cables and cords, telephones, cell phones, radios, shredders, stereo components, power supplies, tape and zip drives and most business and consumer electronic devices.

Large appliances, such as washing machines and refrigerators, toner cartridges, fluorescent light bulbs and any type of battery cannot be accepted.

The shredding and recycling services are being provided by Future Shredding and e-Recycling of California, respectively, officials said.
