A small brush fire between the Orange and Cherry avenues exits along the 405 Freeway spread to a neighboring bus yard where multiple school buses were damaged before Long Beach firefighters were able to knock down the flames, authorities said.

The Thursday afternoon fire started around 2:30 p.m. and took about 20 minutes for the fire crews to put down, LBFD public information officer Brian Fisk said. No injuries were reported from the fire and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The bus yard is located north of the offramp of the Orange Avenue exit and Fisk said that the fire spread from the brush along the side of the freeway through the chainlink fence damaging at least three buses.

There is a homeless encampment along that stretch of the freeway but Fisk could not confirm if that was the source of fire.
