Garage catches fire across the street from Bobbie Smith Elementary School

A detached garage for a home across the street from Bobbie Smith Elementary School caught fire just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze on the 2200 block of Linden Avenue in about 10 minutes, fire department Matt Dobberpuhl said. Witnesses said the fire filled the streets and school nearby with smoke.

No one was injured or displaced because of the fire and investigators are still working to determine the cause, Dobberpuhl said.
