A 4-year-old girl was killed near Davenport Park in North Long Beach Friday evening after being struck by a truck, Long Beach police said.

The girl was hit while crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk by a Ford F-150 traveling east on 55th Way, near Paramount Boulevard, at about 6:58 p.m., authorities said.

When police arrived, they found the girl lying in the roadway. Officers attempted life-saving measures and transported the girl to a hospital, but she died of her injuries.

Police said the driver of the truck, a 25-year-old man from Downey, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police do not believe that speed, distracted driving or impaired driving were factors in the collision.

The identity of the girl is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
