Long Beach City Health Officer Dr. Helene Calvet today said that children who recently received an H1N1 vaccine are not in any danger, after some batches of the vaccine were voluntarily recalled.
Long Beach did receive some batches of the vaccine that were recalled by manufacturer Sanofi-Pasteur, but that particular vaccine was not administered during recent community or school-sponsored clinics.
About 20 doses of the recalled vaccine were administered during clinic appointments last week, but Dr. Calvet says there is no danger because the recalled vaccine simply loses strength after a few weeks and is “unlikely to lead to inadequate protection from H1N1,” according to a press release today.
“Parents whose children may have received this H1N1 flu vaccine should not be concerned,” Dr. Calvet said in the statement. “If their children have received only one dose of the vaccine, a second dose is indicated 3-4 weeks after the first.”
Anyone who received H1N1 vaccines at recent community clinics were not administered the recalled vaccine.
