Five Miller Children’s physicians turned in their lab coats for wet suits and took turns in a dunk tank to raise funds and kick off registration for the 2nd Annual iWalk…4 Kids on Sunday, Sept. 15. Doctors, nurses, patients and their families all practiced their aim to see their favorite doctors take a plunge into the dunk tank.

iWalk…4 Kids is a special event that raises funds to support not-for-profit Miller Children’s critical programs, services and research initiatives that support infants, kids, teens and expectant moms in ways that only a children’s hospital can provide. Teams, individuals, schools and corporations can all join in fundraising and can choose which of the participating departments they want their donations to go toward. “We are one of the largest children’s hospitals in California and are expanding every day,” says Divya Joshi, M.D., chief medical officer, Miller Children’s. “A lot of the needs at this hospital are difficult to finance – any support is greatly appreciated and that is what iWalk…4 Kids is all about.”

Funds were raised for each participating department at the kick-off event through donations made by participants. “We truly appreciate all the support from our doctors,” says Brett Beck, development director, Memorial Medical Center Foundation, “They are such good sports and the fact they came out to do this is pretty amazing.” Simply put by Ramin Javahery, M.D., medical director, pediatric neurosurgery, “I want to help my hospital.”

The three-mile iWalk…4 Kids is on Sunday, Sept. 15 and will start at the Harry Bridges Memorial Park and circle over the Queensway Bridge and Shoreline Aquatic Park. Excitement and anticipation for this fun event is already building. To register or support a walker or department, visit iWalk4Kids.org.
