More than 700 people are set to walk along the Granada Beach shoreline this Saturday to raise awareness and funds for cancer support programs at the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Memorial.
“This walk helps us fundraise so we’re able provide services that aren’t covered by insurance companies to cancer patients and survivors in the community,” said Cindy Gotz, primary organizer for Team Spirit Long Beach.
Last year, the 5K (3.1 mile) walk raised $223,000 for cancer support programs which include peer mentors, support groups, nurse navigators, social workers, cancer survivorship and more to help care for cancer patients and their families.
Participants are encouraged to dress in bright colors, tutus and silly costumes to support those affected by cancer and Wilson High School’s own cheerleading squad will be on the sidelines cheering on the walkers.
The 18th annual Team Spirit Long Beach 5K will start at 7:45AM at Granada Beach, located at 1 South Granada.
