MemorialCare has named Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Yair Katz as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the organization’s three Long Beach hospitals: Long Beach Memorial, Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital Long Beach and Community Hospital Long Beach.
Katz was most recently the assistant vice president and associate university controller for the University of Southern California, according to a release issued by the hospital today. He assumes the position following the former CFO, John Bishop’s move to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MemorialCare Long Beach’s three hospitals last June.
“Yair brings a wealth of experience, expertise and a demonstrated track record of success in all aspects of health care finance,” said John Bishop, CEO of the three MemorialCare hospitals in Long Beach in a statement. “For several years, we witnessed his impressive work and key role in the annual financial audit of MemorialCare and have been highly impressed with his knowledge of our organization, his technical skills, communication style and overall professionalism.”
“I’m excited to be aligned with these leading Long Beach hospitals, a great health system, remarkable leadership team and a wonderful community that my family calls home,” said Katz in a statement. “I look forward to working with our outstanding employees, physicians, board members and volunteers.”
Katz lives with his wife and children in Long Beach. He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he spent nine years and climbed into the ranks of senior management, overseeing large teams and leading large audit engagements for health care entities, universities and not-for-profit organizations.
In his role at USC, he reviewed the operational and financial performance of the three USC hospitals on a monthly basis and was responsible for the re-design and implementation of their financial system. He also served as a liaison between the university and USC hospitals, and enhanced communication between the two entities, according to the release.
Katz is the founder and chair of Chai Lifeline’s Young Leadership committee, and received the Chai Lifeline foundation’s Builders of Hope award for his work supporting the organization in its mission of providing comprehensive services at no cost to families with pediatric illnesses.
