12:15pm | An employment recruitment event will be held April 4 with the aim of hiring 30 Class A truck drivers who have a HazMat endorsement on their driver’s licenses, according to the Long Beach City Manager’s Office. 

Apex International Supply Chain hopes to fill all 30 of the permanent positions it has available at the event. Representatives of the company will be on hand to conduct interviews and hire drivers on the spot. The positions feature salaries of up to $6,000 per month plus benefits. Additionally, a sign-on bonus is available.

Drivers hired will be team driving and are on a “seven days on, one day off” schedule. There are also a number of job requirements all eligible applicants must meet, including:

  • Must be able to pass a DMV/Department of Transportation physical and drug screen;
  • Must have no misdemeanor convictions for possession of a controlled substance in the last 10 years;
  • Must have no DUI, DWI or open container violations in the last five years;
  • Must have no misdemeanor convictions involving crimes of moral turpitude in the last three years;
  • Must have no felony convictions in the last 10 years; and 
  • Must have two years of over-the-road experience. 

The 8 a.m. hiring event on Monday will be held at the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network office located at 3447 Atlantic Ave. Those seeking employment who plan to attend must register with Pacific Gateway prior to attending the event, to which veterans and women are especially encouraged to attend. 

 Required documents for registration include:

  • Driver’s license and Social Security Card or U.S. Passport and any proof of Social Security Number (card, school printout, etc.) for U.S. citizens;
  • Unexpired Permanent Resident Card, also known as a “green card,” for all legal immigrants;
  • Proof of registration with the Selective Service for all males bon after Jan. 1, 1960 (information on this is available by calling 847-688-3117 or visiting SSS.gov); and
  • DD214 or proof of veteran status for all veterans.
