Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who abandoned their teal Mini Cooper after it collided with a car carrying two children in Bluff Park earlier this week.
Last Sunday night, August 26, at about 8:30PM, Long Beach Police Department responded to a hit-and-run collision that occurred on Coronado St. just north of Ocean Blvd. at Bronce Way. Those at the scene said that a 2003 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on Coronado when it was struck by a 2009 teal Mini Cooper that was traveling at a high rate of speed out of an alley. The driver fled the scene on foot before police arrived, said Nancy Pratt of the LBPD.
The 33 year-old male driver of the Nissan, which struck two parked vehicles as a result of the impact, was uninjured. However the occupants of his car—two children, ages six and one—were transported to a local hospital with complaints of pain. The Mini Cooper was impounded pending an investigation.
“The detective’s goal is to determine the identity of the vehicle’s driver so appropriate action can be taken,” Pratt said. “In this particular case, the vehicle was left behind at the scene so the detective is attempting to locate the registered owner.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information regarding the driver of the vehicle should contact Accident Investigation Detective Brian Watt at (562) 570-7355.
