A hit-and-run crash in North Long Beach escalated to a no-hit shooting Sunday evening, police said.

Long Beach police officers responded to the area of 69th Way and Butler Avenue in the Starr King Neighborhood around 8:20 p.m. Sunday regarding a shots call, police said. According to authorities, a man called the police after he was shot at when he followed a car that had just hit his own car and fled the scene.

After the crash, the man followed the suspect’s vehicle and when the cars came to a stop, the suspect got out and fired a gun at him, according to authorities.

The man drove away and called the police, and the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. The victim was not injured, police said.

There is currently no suspect information available, and the motive for the shooting is unknown, but police found evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks, that a shooting had occurred.

The investigation is ongoing.
