Since my last posting on the subject of “Our Most Important Exit Strategy”, another world hostage crisis has taken shape. Instead of Americans being held hostage by the Iranian government, we now have British soldiers in Iranian captivity.
Our friends in the United Kingdom know all too well the value their citizens being held hostage by Iran play in the world theater of international politics. Oil could reach to over $4.00 per gallon before this mess is over and once again our pocket-books are tied to oil and other petroleum products coming from the other side of the world. Oil dependence is the trump card neutralizing the west’s economic and military might.
Every time I visit a local Long Beach gas station, I find residents complaining about gas prices….unfortunately it is a problem of our own creation.
Until we begin our own conservation and alternative fuel measures to radically reduce and eventually eliminate our foreign oil dependency, events such as this new crisis will continue to play a strategic and significant role for those countries holding the oil reserves. We as Americans have become too accustomed to accepting the status quo.
Take another look at your odd or even license plate number. If we don’t focus like a laser now to start our counter measures to reduce foreign oil consumption, we’ll once again be using our hard earned dollars to pay for outrageous gasoline and oil prices.
When will the United States government wake up and realize that we have created a situation where Middle East governments can not only take soldiers hostage but also the American economy.
