Miller Children’s Hospital yesterday announced a generous donation to their Building For Children campaign that will help construct a brand new 124,000 square-ft. inpatient pavilion.  The hospital set a goal to reach $24 million in funding by December 31 of this year, and are nearing that goal after the donation from Bob and Mary Alice Braly.

“We are so grateful for the Bralys’ contributions and continuous support of Miller Children’s Hospital and the Long Beach community,” said Miller Children’s Hospital CEO Terry A. Belmont in a released statement. “This gift will help us fulfill our mission of saving and improving the lives of the children and families we serve. Philanthropy does make a difference.”

The Braly’s donation will contribute to a seashore-themed lobby in the building, meant to ease the stresses associated with staying in a hospital.  The room will be filled with natural light and vibrant colors.  The Reception Desk in the lobby will be dedicated and named in Mary Alice Braly’s honor.

If the $24 million goal is met by its December 31 deadline, additional gifts worth $2 million will be donated from the Kresge and Weingart Foundations.  The hospital has relied on philanthropy and the 2004 passage of Proposition 61 bonds for the expansion.
