3:15pm | One of the nation’s foremost classic car shows will come to Long Beach this summer when Hot August Nights rumbles into town in August 2011.
The 25-year-old traveling event will hold a classic car auction, several car shows, a prom, concerts and nightly cruises down Shoreline Drive and Pine Avenue from August 3-6, 2011. Some events will be located at the Convention Center, with others at the Queen Mary and throughout downtown Long Beach. Best of all, there is no attendance fee for the events.
“We at Hot August Nights are extremely thrilled with this fantastic opportunity and are really looking forward to bringing Hot August Nights to this dynamic and vibrant community on the Pacific Ocean,” said Bruce Walter, CEO of Hot August Nights. “It represents an entirely new dynamic for Hot August Nights.”
The show regularly attracts more than 800,000 attendees to its events, according to a press release today from the Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, and is expected to generate an excess of $300 million.
That success is due to the event’s ability to tap into the nostalgia of classic car afficianados and the 50’s and 60’s atmosphere that attract thousands of spectators each year. Regularly displaying stunning examples of cars like hot rods, woodys and the holy Shelby Cobra (above) have endeared the event to collectors and fans alike.
Organizers say the opportunity to pair with the scenic ocean backdrop and racing history in Long Beach made the perfect match.
“I am delighted to welcome Hot August Nights to the City of Long Beach,” Mayor Bob Foster said in a statement. “This is a wonderful event that the entire family can enjoy. I am confident the participants, spectators and organizers will find that Long Beach is a perfect new location for Hot August Nights.”
