With a $3,000 grant from Hilton Worldwide, Hotel Maya employees just ended beautification efforts last week at a Long Beach preschool for homeless children.

Members of the hotel’s Create A Rewarding Experience Team were able to secure the Travel with Purpose Action Grant and tackle two much-needed projects at Precious Lamb Preschool with many of the children, according to a press release.

“Community first is a genuine corporate philosophy for Hilton Worldwide and the Travel with Purpose Action Grant is a real boost to our local outreach efforts,” said Kristi Allen, vice president of hotel operations at Hotel Maya. “Our employees embrace the brand’s CARE culture and look forward to opportunities to give back to organizations such as Precious Lamb Preschool, where they know they are really making a difference in the community and for the families.”

Activities included repairing play systems and laying down new mulch at the school’s playground, as well as creating a sustainable garden.

The CARE team was able to provide watering cans, small garden tools and garden aprons and helped teach children about agriculture and sustainability.

The work was split into four sessions, beginning June 30 and ending July 23.

During the upcoming harvest, a Hotel Maya chef will return to teach the children the importance of eating their fruits and veggies, according to the release.
