Treecycling is more than just a nifty play on words. It’s an important city recycling program that retains our environment while simultaneously keeping one of our most iconic holiday traditions alive.

As Americans accumulate some 25 to 30 million trees per year for the holiday seasons, their disposal becomes important since–after they lose their moisture and begin to dry up–they have rich nutrients which can be used in different capacities, mainly compost or mulch. They can also be used for chipping, beachfront erosion prevention and water shoreline stabilizers.

And Long Beach’s 21st Annual Holiday “Treecycling” Tree Recycling program gives residents the chance to dispose of their trees–free of charge–while keeping the trees out of the trash after the holidays.

From December 26 through January 12 of next year, residents can drop off trees at several locations throughout the city. Residents with City refuse service can leave their trees out where trash is normally collected by 7:00AM on Saturday, January 12, 2013. All trees must have decorations and stands removed, and trees over 12 feet tall should be cut in half.
