Whether you’re spending Independence Day out in the park or with a backyard home BBQ, enjoy the holiday safely and avoid lighting your own fireworks.  The District Weekly tells us that they can be quite dangerous.

Instead, you and yours have a slew of city-sponsored events to choose from.  The Queen Mary will host a huge fireworks spectacular with several musical acts (also promising a surprise multi-platinum recording artist), while good ‘ol Veterans Stadium will host a promising show of their own – doors open at 5pm and fireworks start at 9pm, tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for kids.

During the day, Justin Rudd will host the latest Belmont Shore Kids Bike Parade, beginning at 10am.  Participants must be signed up by 9:15am, and red, white, and blue supplies will be available to decorate bicycles.  The best designers have a shot to win the parade’s Creativity Contest.  The parade begins at the end of Granada Ave in Belmont Shore.

Tomorrow, on Saturday the 5th, the Long Beach Armada will host a fireworks show following their game against Calgary.  Click here for ticket info.

Or, like me, you could round up 20-30 friends and organize a good old-fashioned game of kickball in the park.  Whatever you decide, celebrate your 4th of July safely, and have a great day of independence.
