Police say they’re investigating after an inmate at Long Beach’s City Jail died Tuesday afternoon.

Steven Alfred Price, 28, was found unresponsive in his jail cell around 4 p.m. by officers conducting inmate safety checks, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Despite efforts by authorities to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Price, according to the LBPD, was arrested Monday morning at around 10:45 a.m. for a parole violation, and there was no “use of force” while he was in custody.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and will conduct and investigation to determine what caused Price’s death.

At this time, the incident is being investigated as an undetermined death, according to police.
