The destruction of the city’s iconic Acres of Books still looms more than a year away, but four buildings around Acres fell victim to the bulldozer as the city continues steps to renovate the Third Street and Long Beach Boulevard area. The most visible of those to fall yesterday was Jack’s Liquor, distinctive yellow sign weathered and torn. City Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal was on hand to witness the changes to her district, even wielding a hardhat and sledgehammer for photos.
