James Johnson
James Johnson’s election to the 7th District City Council seat in 2010 has only increased his passion for his hometown, a passion that remained with him after he graduated from Poly High School and traveled to Harvard to earn his degree in economics, then to UC Berkeley for his law degree. After returning home, he found employment with the City Clerk, the with the City Auditor. In his two years as councilmember James has focused on improving air quality, developing of open space, and making local government more efficient. He has helped bring about a new street maintenance plan that will save the city $30 million over 20 years, and his proposal to ban retroactive pension increases made Long Beach the first city in California to go on record advocating such reform. Most recently he helped underserved Westside get its first full-service ATM in over 20 years, as well bringing Greener Good Farmers’ Market and Center Space to Admiral Kidd Park every Saturday. James also serves on the boards of the Fairfield YMCA and For the Child, an anti-child abuse organization.
