Authorities rescued one jet skier who was found stranded on the Long Beach breakwater Sunday night, but they’re still searching for another who went missing after becoming separated from their group.

The search began around 10 p.m. when the Long Beach Fire Department was notified about two people missing from a group of jet skiers who’d gone out for a ride earlier that evening.

Then, around 10:30 p.m., they got a call from a civilian boat saying someone was yelling for help near the breakwater, which helped narrow the search, LBFD Capt. Jack Crabtree said.

LBFD lifeguards dove into the water and rescued a woman from the breakwater, according to Crabtree. Once they got her aboard their boat, they took her to shore, where she was taken to the hospital in stable condition, he said.

Rescuers from the Fire Department, Police Department and Coast Guard kept searching for the second missing jet skier, Crabtree said.

Hours later, at around 1:15 a.m., they found an empty jet ski in the open water past the breakwater. They found a second one around 1:45 a.m., Crabtree said — but no rider.

Crews are continuing to scour the area this morning.
