Long Beach Assistant City Auditor James Johnson officially kicked off his campaign in the race for the 7th District City Council Seat over the weekend, with a party held at Neho’s located on Santa Fe and Burnett.

Johnson spoke to a packed room about his vision for the west Long Beach district, and announced the support of State Senator Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach, pictured at right).

“I appreciate Senator Lowenthal’s support in this race,” Johnson said. “I have been honored to work with Senator Lowenthal for a better Long Beach over the years, and I look forward to continuing to work with him to move the community forward.”

Other supporters in attendance included City Auditor Laura Doud, School Board President Mary Stanton and Boardmember Jon Meyer, Harbor Commissioner Mario Cordero, and Water Commissioner John Allen.

Johnson faces a difficult race for the April vote, joining Jill Hill and Jack Smith on the ballot, while incumbent Tonia Reyes Uranga is mounting a write-in campaign to retain her seat (Uranga has reached the two-term limit).
