9:00am | The two candidates for City Council who will face off one more time in a run-off for the 7th District seat will each hold campaign kick-off events this week, as they prepare for the June election.

Incumbent Tonia Reyes Uranga mounted a strong write-in campaign in April’s election and forced a run-off by winning 30.7% of the vote (her opponent, James Johnson, received the most votes but did not earn a majority). Reyes Uranga’s name will appear on the June ballot, which could put her at a distinct advantage due to name recognition within the district. Her kickoff event is tonight from 5:30pm-7:30pm at campaign headquarters on 3640 Atlantic Avenue.

Assistant City Auditor James Johnson received the most votes in April’s race with 45.0% of the vote, and will hold his event this Saturday at 10:00am at campaign headquarters at 3550 Long Beach Boulevard. Johnson had a very strong showing during the April election but did not earn a majority, forcing the run-off. His campaign has centered around fiscal responsibility and economic expertise, as well as a focus on long-term sustainability for the City.
