A man was hospitalized after jumping onto the 405 Freeway at Cherry Avenue around 8:40 this morning, according to authorities.

Police said the man was trying to kill himself when he jumped from the overpass and landed in the southbound carpool lane.

No cars hit the man, but he ended up with several injuries from the fall, including broken or fractures bones, Long Beach police spokesman Benjamin Hearst said. None of the injuries were life-threatening, according to police.

Medics took him to a nearby hospital, Hearst said.

The incident jammed lanes of the southbound 405, according to a CHP log.
