12:01pm | A jury, after less than three hours of deliberation, convicted a Long Beach man on Tuesday of murdering his girlfriend’s husband back in 1985.
For the last more than 25 years, Janos Kulcsar, 60, has been in a relationship with his victim’s wife. He now faces spending the rest of his life behind bars, the Daily Breeze reported.
Jurors found Kulcsar guilty of first-degree murder for stabbing 58-year-old Archie McFarland to death in the city of Torrance on Dec. 9, 1985. Prosecutors said Kulcsar killed McFarland after McFarland’s wife, Mary Ann, ended an affair she had been having with Kulcsar and reconciled with her husband.
In 1985 the District Attorney’s office rejected the case against Kulcsar, citing insufficient evidence. Torrance police reopened the case two years ago and arrested Kulcsar on April 1, 2010.
A sentencing hearing has been set for Aug. 2. Kulcsar is facing a sentence of up to 26 years to life.
