An underage male was shot this past Saturday, December 29, by a Long Beach Police officer after brandishing a firearm when police had arrived to a gunshots call.
At around 5AM, Long Beach Police officers appeared near the 6800 block of Beechley Avenue where gunshots had been heard. Approaching a group of people gathered in front of the home, an officer-involved shooting occurred when the juvenile pulled out a firearm.
According to the preliminary investigation, the underage subject was involved in a confrontation with a group where he apparently fired several rounds from his weapon, prompting the call to the police.
The suspect—wounded but not killed—was transfered to a hospital and treated. He was then booked on charges for assault with a deadly weapon and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a police officer. Due to his age, his identity has not been released.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting.
