A man who was driven from Riverside County to Long Beach and then beaten, shot and dumped in an alley died from his wounds Monday afternoon. Three men were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and attempted murder Friday night after 24 year-old Hector Campos was found wounded near the 1000 block of St. Louis Ave. Police say all three have been rebooked and now face murder charges.

The incident began in Riverside County on Friday evening, where detectives say the victim met with suspects 19 year-old Jose Duenas of Long Beach, 20 year-old Christopher Ramirez of Mira Loma and 21-year-old Antonio Portales of Long Beach. After a dispute—the details of which are still unclear—Campos was assaulted, put in a car and driven to Long Beach.

At around 11:52, Long Beach Police Department responded to the 1200 block of 10th St. regarding a report of a person choking a male unconscious and placing him in the trunk of a car. Officers conducted a traffic stop of the car nearby based on witnesses descriptions and discovered blood in the trunk of the vehicle, but no body.

Officers detained the two suspects and returned to the scene of the reported assault where they found a bloody hammer and gun. While searching the area further, LBPD received a call reporting shots fired a few blocks away and responded to find the victim in the alley with a gunshot wound to the torso.

The suspects in the car—as well as a third who was found in an apartment complex near the original assault location—were all arrested for their involvement.

Police say that the motive for the kidnapping, assault and shooting are unknown. LBPD is expected to present the case to the District Attorney today.
