Kimberlee Woods was thrilled and honored to be named Female Community Grand Marshall of this year’s Pride Parade. She is the Executive Director of the Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Center. Previously, she served on their Board of Directors.

She has served the LGBT community in Long Beach with many organizations over the years. She also has served on the Board of Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Inc. for two years between 1998 and 2000 and chaired committees in charge of communications and the parade in addition to acting as community liaison with the city.

A former teacher and school administrator, she cares about education and the well-being of young people and much of her career has been focused on these values. She began her classroom experience teaching Math and Science in Middle School and later became an assistant principal. During her masters program in Education, she was elected as the Political Action Committee Chair of the Lennox Teacher’s Association.

During that time, she also spent a year and a half working to defeat Proposition 22 with a handful of volunteers from the Center in Los Angeles and was then appointed the Long Beach area representative for that campaign. She has also done worked with Lambda Democratic Club for several years and in 2006, she was honored with their “Outstanding Woman of the Year” Award.

She was proud to join the 2008 Male Community Grand Marshall, Justin Rudd, Parade Grand Marshall Kurt Knutsson, and Political Grand Marshall Suja Lowenthal in celebrating 25 years of Pride.
