On a bright and beautiful 70-degree day last week, dozens of the area’s best high school golfers battled in a competitive field to bring home some serious hardware. The 12th Annual Knabe Cup was held at the Lakewood Country Club last Wednesday, hosted by Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe. The tournament was held in near-perfect conditions, as the Supervisor delivered an inspiring introduction before teeing off to begin the event.
Ben Lein of Los Altos High captured top honors with an impressive 69, winning the individual competition as well as the team competition. Cerritos High finished in second place, and Long Beach’s own Wilson High captured fourth. Andrew Morgan shot a 74 for the Bruins, while Boris Stantchev added a 75.
Lakewood finished 16th to round out Moore League teams in the Top 20. Nearly 150 golfers competed.
