10:00AM | (CNS) An electrical sign manufacturing facility in an industrial area of western Long Beach was severely damaged in a fire yesterday, but the 11 employees escaped without injury.

The fire in the 1500 block of West Anaheim Street was reported shortly before 1PM, according to Brian Fisk of the Long Beach Fire Department. 

He said the fire quickly went to a third alarm, with as many as 45 firefighters on scene. Fire crews went into a defensive mode when the roof began collapsing. The blaze was knocked down in about 30 minutes, although crews remained on the scene throughout the afternoon.

The amount of damage was not immediately available and the cause was still under investigation.

July 1 | A large plume of smoke is currently soaring above West Long Beach as firefighters are working to battle a blaze in the area of Santa Fe Avenue and Anaheim Street.

The fire was first reported at about 1PM at the Superior Electrical Advertising Inc. building, located at 1700 West Anaheim Street.

Residents are being advised to avoid the area of Harbor and 17th as well as Santa Fe from Anaheim to 9th street. There may be delays into the Harbor area.
