Long Beach officials on Thursday announced 84 new cases of COVID-19 in the city, but said the jump is because of a delay and then influx of test results from a private lab.

The total number of cases in Long Beach is now at 875.

The jump comes after officials reported just two new cases on Wednesday. Officials say the delayed results were likely a contributing factor for this number.

No new deaths from COVID-19 were reported for the second day in a row, leaving the total number of fatalities at 38. A total of 46 people are currently hospitalized.

Two Long Beach police officers have tested positive for COVID-19. The newest officer, who works in the East Division, was asymptomatic and is currently in isolation. Officials said all facilities used by them have been deep cleaned and sanitized.
