Long Beach City College President Eloy Ortiz Oakley and Luis Lemus, owner of the Prospector restaurant and bar have been announced as the two marshals for the fourth annual Latin American Parade and Festival to be held September 8.

Oakley will be serving as the parade’s Grand Marshal and was selected from nominees who are leaders in the City of Long Beach and Latino community. Lemus—the subject of a Post profile earlier this year—is this year’s Community Marshal and was chosen from a pool of nominated community members who have shown dedication to Long Beach on a grassroots level.

“I am honored to have been selected for this celebration of Hispanic culture,” said Oakley in a statement. “I am especially proud to represent Long Beach City College which has one of the largest Latino student populations in the state.”

The Latin American Parade and Festival will begin with a parade down Pine Ave. from 6th St. and will finish with a festival at City Place. More than 10,000 people are expected to attent this year’s event, which will take over two city blocks with vendors and food representing (among others) Mexican, Honduran, Puerto Rican, Peruvian and Carribbean cultures.
