Police are asking residents to be on the lookout citywide, as they continue to search for information on a string of burglaries that have recently occurred as possible suspects have broken into coin-operated washers and driers, stealing the money inside. According to authorities, more than 70 of these burglaries have occurred since January, a significant increase in this activity.

A majority of the incidents have been reported in the South Patrol Division, which is outlined by the Los Angeles River, Anaheim Street, Cherry Avenue and the Pacific Ocean shoreline.  In some cases, possible suspects were seen leaving the scene on bicycles.

Police are advising residents and property managers who use coin-operated washing/drying machines to take safe steps to prevent burglaries, such as using locks on doors, installing security cameras and lighting, frequently removing the coins inside the machines and paying attention to commotion occurring around a laundry facility.

Anyone with information should contact Burglary Detective Lorri Peck at 562.570.7351.
