
Long Beach City College is turning 80 on Wednesday, September 12, and will celebrate its anniversary with three days of exciting events including a historic Human 80 photograph, a Birthday Party at the Pacific Coast Campus and a Community Picnic.
“The entire Long Beach City College family is looking forward to celebrating 80 years of student success and Viking pride,” said LBCC President Eloy Ortiz Oakley. “We look forward to 80 more years of serving Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill, Avalon, and our surrounding communities.”
Wednesday, September 12 – HUMAN 80 & Birthday Cake 80th Anniversary festivities will begin on September 12. This day will mark 80 years to the day that LBCC classes began. Students, faculty, staff and alumni will participate in a historic human 80 on the Liberal Arts Campus.
Included in the human 80 will be Philip Wilson and Mildred McLeay Moore, two students that attended LBCC in 1927, 80 years ago.
Thursday, September 13 – 80th Birthday Party and HUMAN 80 Photo Unveiling A special 80th Birthday Party will be held on the Pacific Coast Campus in the Student Center at noon. The human 80 photograph will be unveiled and students, faculty and staff will be treated to LBCC birthday cake and refreshments.
Saturday, September 15 – LBCC Community Picnic Long Beach City College will host a special community picnic in front of the Hall of Champions on the south side of Carson Street on Faculty Avenue. The picnic is open to the public and will include food, games and live music.
Free tickets to the Viking Football game that night will be given out to all picnic attendees.
