Long Beach City College has awarded over $750,000 in student scholarships for the upcoming 2012-13 academic year. The students were honored at a special scholarship reception this week. LBCC has one of the largest scholarship programs at the community college level in the United States, with 1,200 students applying and 1,100 being awarded in some fashion.

Amongst the scholarships were the Long Beach College Promise Scholarship which included a tuition free first semester and a $100,000 scholarship gift from Long Beach Rotary.

All students who applied and received 3.0 or higher grade point average received some type of assistance. Over 100 students carried a perfect 4.0 grade point average when they applied. The oldest scholarship recipient awarded this year is 71 and the youngest recipient is 13 years of age.
