A fire near the El Dorado Nature Center was quickly extinguished on Thursday thanks to fast-acting Long Beach Fire Department firefighters, who contained the small blaze to only a quarter of an acre.

The fire was reported around 11:30AM and was found to be burning in an approximately four acre open area on the south side of Willow just west of the I-605 freeway. Orange County Fire assisted with one engine and together with the LBFD, the fire was quickly put out.

Winds pushed the smoke towards the Nature Center, which was evacuated for part of the day as a precaution. It is unknown what started the fire; the cause is still under investigation.

This is the second fire in the same area near El Dorado Park since the beginning of this year. The cause of the previous fire remains unknown.
